Neil, Duncan and I took on the Lothian Flyer road race yesterday in mixed conditions.
We started off in the rain, before it began to hail on us down the first descent! The wind was up on the climb and made it quite slow going up, although the pace was on. |
A couple of laps into the race the decisive break was made on said climb.
I was a bit too late out of the bunch but made my move to get across and caught the other chaser after a few minutes. We rode as hard as we could to try and shut the last 10 seconds or so, but to no avail. The two riders out front were not to be caught again, they were absolutely flying. |
Once we were reabsorbed by the bunch, I sat in to try and conserve energy to help Neil and Duncan for the finish.
Duncan was managing absolutely fine on his own, having never been out of the top 10 all day. He and Neil both made attacks of their own and got nice gaps but eventually it came back together for a sprint of sorts up the final climb. Neil powered on to be the first Gala rider home, followed by Duncan with me glued to his wheel. |
A good day out for us, but left wanting for a little more. Promising times!
