Meanwhile, on Sunday, in Gateshead, another mudfest was being attended by a Gala CC racer.

Another top day out at the CXNE series of races, this time within the shadow of the inspirational Gateshead International Athletics Stadium.
As I drove down across the Border the rain started, as per forecast, and by the time I hit Gateshead it was properly pouring…this was going to be fun!?
A warm up lap to suss out the mental hill that was unrideable and barely walkable but the rest of the course was to be a great combination of tech corners and some switch backs on a climb and some off camber greasy slopes….
Having raced a couple of times in the series so far I was delighted to get my name called and a position on the grid albeit many rows back…Off to a decent start and then kept up a decent effort throughout…
Managed to achieve my aim which was not to get passed by anyone in my Cat but to try and gain a few places, and even catching Ali Dow from Peebles CC on the last lap!
The course held up but was properly muddy by the end. Another great event, well organised, friendly folk, and a good way to spend a few hours on a Sunday!
