It had been snowing on and off all day Wednesday.
The timing of this cold snap with the start of the TT season was particularly cruel given that the preceding week had seen high teens temperatures and cyclists dressed in single layers of short lycra basking in the warm sunshine.
It snowed during “warm-up”.
The sun came out in time for the race but the zero temperature and bitter wind meant that hypothermia was never far away.
For the intrepid few who turned up to race, the five mile distance was mercifully short.
Congratulations to Arran who won it in an incredible 10:36, just 14 seconds off the course record of 10:22.
Pretty remarkable given the weather conditions and some start to the season!
Thanks to those who braved it and, as always, to the timekeeper and marshals.
An interesting bit of weather trivia: last season’s final TT was on this same course, on 8th September. The temperature that day was over 28 degrees C!
The times:
10:36 Arran Gannicott
11:49 Duncan MacLeod
12:14 Nathan Beard
12:15 Neil Shepherd
13:20 Jeremy Weston
13:25 Andrew Howett
13:42 Steve Lowes
13:57 Russell Carson
14:49 Bob Stevens (Road Bike)
